In Fuerteventura there is a market almost every day of the week, but they are not all the same. Here you will find which markets are on, on which day and at what time, and what kind of market to expect, with a link to the page for each one.
Two kinds of market
- Craft markets: stalls run by artisans who live on the island, handmade pieces and original designs. These are El Campanario in Corralejo, El Cotillo, Lajares and the Sunday market at Oasis Wildlife, which also has island produce.
- Local produce: fruit, vegetables and other produce from the island’s small farmers and livestock breeders. These are the Mercado de las Tradiciones in La Oliva and the Mercado Agrario de Fuerteventura in Puerto del Rosario.
Day by day
- Tuesday: the Mercado de las Tradiciones in La Oliva, 9:00 to 13:30.
- Thursday: the craft market at El Campanario in Corralejo, 9:00 to 14:00.
- Friday: the Mercado de las Tradiciones in La Oliva, 9:00 to 13:30; in the evening the El Cotillo craft market, 18:00 to 22:00; from June to September the evening craft market in the Plaza de El Castillo in Caleta de Fuste.
- Saturday: the Mercado Agrario de Fuerteventura in Puerto del Rosario, 8:00 to 13:00; the Lajares craft market, 10:00 to 14:00.
- Sunday: the craft market at El Campanario in Corralejo and the Oasis Wildlife market in La Lajita, both 9:00 to 14:00.
In the north
The north of the island, in the municipality of La Oliva, has four markets a few minutes’ drive from each other. In Corralejo the Mercado Canario fills the El Campanario shopping centre on Thursday and Sunday mornings. In El Cotillo the CotiArte craft market is held on Friday evenings in the village square, with live music at sunset. In Lajares more than forty artisans set up their stalls in the square on Saturday mornings. In La Oliva the Casa del Coronel hosts the island’s producers on Tuesday and Friday mornings.
On the east coast
In Puerto del Rosario, the capital, the Mercado Agrario de Fuerteventura brings the produce of the island’s farmers and stockbreeders to the bus station on Saturday mornings.
In Caleta de Fuste, in the municipality of Antigua, the Ayuntamiento de Antigua organises a craft market on Friday evenings in the Plaza de El Castillo in summer.
In the south
On Sunday mornings in La Lajita, in the municipality of Pájara, Oasis Wildlife hosts more than eighty stalls of crafts and island produce.
Before you go
- Bring cash: not every stall takes cards.
- Morning markets close around two: it is best to arrive before midday.
- Holidays and seasons: times can change on public holidays, and the summer Friday market in Caleta de Fuste announces its dates each year.
