On Tuesday and Friday mornings, around fifteen local producers bring the island’s produce to the Mercado de las Tradiciones, in the Casa del Coronel in La Oliva. Local produce and crafts: a taste of the island’s flavours and traditions.
Days and times
- Tuesday and Friday, 9:00 to 13:30: the Mercado de las Tradiciones at the Casa del Coronel, in La Oliva.
Times can change on public holidays.
What you’ll find
The stalls belong to small farmers, livestock breeders and artisans from Fuerteventura: fruit, vegetables and other produce from the island’s farms, and crafts made here, sold by the people who make them. Fuerteventura is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and this is one of the places where its produce goes straight from the field to the table.

The market is run by the Ayuntamiento de La Oliva.
The Casa del Coronel
The market is held in the Casa del Coronel, a historic building in La Oliva that became a private residence in 1840. Coming here on a market morning is also a way into the town’s past: La Oliva was for a long time the seat of the island’s colonels, and its old houses and church are a short walk away.
Getting there
La Oliva is an inland town in the north of Fuerteventura, the one that gives its name to the municipality, about twenty minutes by car from Corralejo.
Tiadhe buses connect La Oliva with the rest of the north: routes and timetables are on the Tiadhe website.
Before you go
- Bring cash: not every stall takes cards.
- Bring a bag: this is a market for the week’s shopping as much as for a stroll.
- Go before midday: the market closes at half past one.
Other markets in the north
In Corralejo, the market at El Campanario is on Thursday and Sunday mornings. El Cotillo has its craft market on Friday evenings and Lajares on Saturday mornings. Planaquí lists every market of the week, together with the fiestas and the other events of the island.
Every market on the island, day by day, is in the guide to Fuerteventura markets.
