In one sentence
Planaquí is the app for Fuerteventura’s events, hour by hour: local fiestas, romerías, markets, music and culture, with each day’s programme. For iPhone and Android, in Spanish, English and Italian.
The project
Planaquí shows Fuerteventura’s events — village fiestas, romerías, markets, music and culture — with the date, time and place of every activity. Fiesta programmes, which usually circulate as posters, are rewritten event by event: Today shows today’s part in order, Month the whole month, and every card carries the full programme.
The island words that appear in the programmes, such as parranda, verbena or bola canaria, are explained right where they appear, and they are all collected in “Island words”. Every card says where the information comes from and lets you report anything that looks wrong, and around each event the app shows the nearest historic places: churches, mills, old water tanks.
Each event keeps its title in the language of the source; the descriptions are original texts, written in Spanish, English and Italian and published after human review. The app is made in Fuerteventura by Studio Jable.
What the app does
Today and Month
Today shows the day’s events in order: what has already started, what starts soon and what comes next. Month shows the whole month in a grid, each day coloured by how many activities it has, plus a look ahead at the first ten days of next month.
Follow a fiesta
You can save the activities you’re interested in or follow an entire fiesta, with a reminder the day before and a widget on your Home Screen.
My plan
My plan turns what you’ve saved into a plan for each day: the events in time order and, around each one, the three nearest historic places, placed before the event if there is time or after it if not. A museum appears only if it is open in that window.
Between one block and the next it shows the travel time, warns when an event ends after dark and, if two events overlap, flags it and asks which one to keep.
Island words
Words from Canarian traditions that have no direct translation are explained by tapping them in the programme, without leaving the page.
Near you
With location on, every event shows a rough estimate of how long it takes to get there, and a map shows what is still on tonight, or this morning, in nearby villages. Without location the app works just the same.
The download is free.
Who is behind it
Planaquí is a project by Augusta Bande, a software developer since 2007 who lives in Fuerteventura. Through Studio Jable she works on web development, user experience and digital presence. She designs and builds Planaquí and reviews the texts the app publishes.
