Every Friday evening, the main square of El Cotillo fills with stalls of crafts made on the island. The CotiArte craft market is small and local, with live music or a DJ set as the sun goes down over the village.
Day and time
- Friday, 18:00 to 22:00: the CotiArte craft market in the Plaza pública, the main square of El Cotillo.
The music changes every week. Times can change with the season and on public holidays.
What you’ll find
The stalls belong to artisans who live and work in Fuerteventura: handmade pieces and original designs, rather than souvenirs. It is a market to browse slowly, with a drink in hand.
Each Friday has its own music, from live bands to DJ sets: indie folk, eighties pop, electronic music. The line-up is announced week by week.
Getting there
El Cotillo is on the north-west coast of Fuerteventura, in the municipality of La Oliva, about twenty minutes by car from Corralejo. The square is in the centre of the village.
Tiadhe’s number 08 bus connects Corralejo and El Cotillo. Routes and timetables are on the Tiadhe website.
Before you go
- Bring some cash: not every stall takes cards.
- Bring a layer: evenings by the sea can be windy, even in summer.
- Stay for the sunset: the coast of El Cotillo faces west.
Other markets in the north
On Saturday mornings there is the craft market in Lajares, a few minutes inland, and in Corralejo there is the market at El Campanario on Thursdays and Sundays. For fruit, vegetables and local products, there is the Mercado de las Tradiciones in La Oliva on Tuesdays and Fridays. Planaquí lists every market of the week, together with the fiestas and the other events of the island.
Every market on the island, day by day, is in the guide to Fuerteventura markets.
